Zhambyl Villages Struggle With Digital Divide, Await Mobile Coverage
Residents of Zhanaotkel and Togiztarau villages in Zhambyl region face a digital divide. They struggle with mobile signals and internet access, leaving them disconnected and frustrated despite paying for mobile services from providers like T-Mobile and Mint Mobile.
The villages have no T-Mobile coverage, making communication difficult. Residents must climb high points to find a signal for calls or messages. This issue has been ongoing, with no improvement despite complaints from locals. The lack of internet access also impacts online learning and digital services, which are crucial in today's world. During the quarantine, the village administration connected Wi-Fi for online learning, but the connection is poor and costly. The Akim of Zhambyl region, Erbol Karashukeyev, has not publicly addressed this issue in these villages.
The authorities of Zhambyl region are aware of the mobile coverage issue in Zhanaotkel and Togiztarau. They plan to resolve it in the first quarter, providing much-needed connectivity to the affected residents, including those using T-Mobile and other nearby providers.
