Zap Announces Significant Name Change

In a significant move, Zap Africa, a startup focused on non-custodial crypto infrastructure, has rebranded its platform, Zap Exchange. This rebrand comes with a host of improvements aimed at providing users with a faster, more innovative, and intuitive user experience.

The redesign, which was deliberately decided to take place in April 2024, according to Co-founder Tobi Asu-Johnson, was driven by the platform’s maturation and the scaling of its user base. The new interface simplifies the trading experience, making complex transactions effortless and more accessible to retail and semi-professional users.

Key updates include faster logins, the ability to save wallet addresses, token-specific trade history, custom watchlists, and real-time price alerts, all tailored specifically to the needs of Nigerian users who often rely on mobile-first tools for trading on the go. The new interface of Zap Exchange is cleaner, quicker, and designed to give users a 'control room' experience.

Co-founder and CTO Moore Dagogo-Hart stated that the rebrand aims to give users more control, with faster transactions, easier access to their data, and a beautiful interface. The visual identity of the original product was outdated and no longer reflected the clarity, confidence, or sophistication of the product.

It's worth noting that the rebrand coincides with a trademark dispute involving fintech giant Paystack, which recently launched a product under the same name, "Zap." However, Zap's founders clarify that the rebrand was already in motion, as part of their product roadmap, and was not a reaction to the trademark dispute.

Zap was originally founded to address distrust in centralized platforms and focus on user control. The rebrand includes a refreshed logo and an upgraded flagship product, Zap Exchange, which continues to embody these principles while offering a more streamlined and user-friendly experience. This rebrand is a clear reflection of a sharper vision for the company’s future and a fresh chapter for Zap, driven by a clearer vision and inspired by the belief that people deserve tools that work simply and seamlessly in the background.

The rebrand of Zap Exchange, a non-custodial crypto infrastructure startup, is not only a response to the company's growing user base but also a strategic move in the business world of finance and technology. The new interface of Zap Exchange, scheduled for release in April 2024, offers features such as faster logins, saved wallet addresses, real-time price alerts, and custom watchlists, catering to Nigerian users who primarily use mobile devices for trading.
