Xpeng initiates manufacturing of its X9 passenger van in Indonesia while displaying the new G6 model
Xpeng, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has taken a significant step forward in its Australian expansion with the production and delivery of the right-hand-drive (RHD) X9 people mover in Indonesia. The Australian market introduction of the X9 is anticipated in Q3 2025, with specifications possibly similar to Chinese variants offering up to 702 km range and up to 370 kW power [1][4].
The X9, first revealed in April, boasts 10-80% fast-charging times as low as 12 minutes at its 480 kW chargers, thanks to its 800 V architecture [1]. Inside, the X9 features captain's chairs and luxury amenities for all passengers.
Alongside the X9 RHD production start in July 2025, Xpeng also unveiled the right-hand-drive 2025 G6 SUV. Equipped with advanced AI hardware, including Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 and Nvidia Orin-X processors, the G6 promises to bring cutting-edge technology to the EV market [1].
Xpeng had launched the G6 in Australia previously, but the new RHD version with major updates was only shown recently. However, no immediate availability date for this new G6 RHD in Australia has been announced explicitly [1].
By starting production of the RHD X9 in Indonesia, Xpeng is likely to begin production of the updated G6 in the region as well, potentially providing greater access to the latest EV architectures and platforms for markets like Australia.
