WWF Germany Launches 'NFAs: Non-Fungible Animals' NFT Collection to Save Endangered Species
WWF Germany is launching its first NFT collection, 'NFAs: Non-Fungible Animals', to raise awareness about endangered species. The sale begins at 2 pm GMT +1 on November 2, 2021, with proceeds funding conservation projects. The NFTs, bought using stablecoin USDC for energy efficiency, feature unique artworks by established and emerging artists, including internationally acclaimed digital artist Kode (Bosslogic).
Max Penk, a film production worker, proposed this innovative fundraising idea to WWF Germany in March 2022. The NFA campaign showcases 10 artworks, each representing an endangered species with a limited number of NFTs matching the species' current population. The collection is built on the Polygon blockchain, chosen for its extreme energy efficiency, consuming just 0.0003% of the energy used by Bitcoin.
Penk compares NFTs to animals, highlighting their uniqueness and non-fungibility, much like each animal in the wild. The NFTs can't be replaced on a like-for-like basis, just as each animal is irreplaceable. The campaign aims to educate buyers about these species' plight and the importance of conservation.
The 'NFAs: Non-Fungible Animals' collection will be available for purchase on WWF Germany's website, with prices ranging from 79 to 799 USDC. By buying these NFTs, collectors will not only own a piece of unique digital art but also support WWF's mission to protect endangered species and their habitats.
