Woman from Taiping defrauded of RM572,000 in fraudulent cryptocurrency scam, police report
In Taiping, Malaysia, a private interpreter in her 40s has fallen victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam. The incident was reported to the police on September 19, 2025.
The ordeal began on August 10 when the victim was contacted via Instagram by an individual claiming to be a Chinese national named 'Yang Yuting.' The suspect informed her about a certain cryptocurrency investment that promised high returns of 20 percent. Convinced by the suspect's explanation, the victim agreed to participate in the investment.
On August 22, the victim made her initial investment of RM8,740. However, when she could not provide more funds, she was instructed to secure a loan from her bank. Over the following days, the victim significantly increased her investments, totalling RM572,130 via 12 online transfers to nine different accounts at various banks.
The link sent by the suspect for investment was https://ethiax.bdygx.com. The name of the cryptocurrency involved in the scam remains unknown.
After completing the transactions, the suspect demanded further deposits from the victim. Realizing she had been defrauded, the victim refused to secure another loan from her bank and filed a police report. She managed to recover a return of RM9,595 after her initial investment.
The scam was operated by a syndicate online since August, and the police are investigating the matter under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. The search results do not provide the name of the company to which the victim sent the money transfers. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
This incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution when considering online investment opportunities, especially those involving cryptocurrencies. It is crucial to verify the legitimacy of any investment before committing funds. If you have been a victim of a similar scam, report it to the authorities immediately.
