Yandex.Taxi Introduces Map with Free Wi-Fi Hotspots in Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog
In a bid to combat mobile internet shutdowns and ensure uninterrupted taxi services, Yandex.Taxi has integrated a map with free Wi-Fi hotspots into its driver app, Yandex Pro. According to a report by TASS, this feature is now available in Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog.
The integration of the map with Wi-Fi points is intended to improve the efficiency and reliability of taxi services in these cities. It allows taxi drivers to connect at these hotspots when their mobile data is unavailable, enabling them to receive ride requests and navigate effectively.
This solution, which has been successful in similar Russian cities like Nizhny Novgorod, benefits taxi services by enabling drivers to continue operating despite mobile data issues. However, it may also lead to drivers congregating at hotspots instead of being evenly distributed, potentially causing fewer drivers on roads and higher ride prices in affected areas.
The map with free Wi-Fi hotspots is not limited to Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog. It is available in 11 additional cities in Russia, including St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saratov, Tolyatti, Orenburg, Penza, Tula, Saransk, Dzerzhinsk, and Engels. In total, there are over 5,500 Wi-Fi points across these cities.
The service is expected to be expanded to more cities in the near future. It is also worth noting that the map with Wi-Fi points is a response to the increasing demand for reliable internet connectivity among taxi drivers and passengers.
To find the nearest Wi-Fi network, a taxi driver needs to tap the search icon in the app, enter "Wi-Fi," and select the desired address where the connection point is located. The function will also be available for couriers in the future, as reported by TASS.
This latest addition to the features available on the Yandex Pro app, which includes navigation, traffic updates, and passenger information, underscores Yandex.Taxi's commitment to providing a seamless and reliable service to its users. The service was confirmed by Yandex.Taxi's press office to the publication.
In May and June, the Rostov region ranked among the top regions in Russia for mobile internet outages, as reported by Yuga.ru. The integration of the map with Wi-Fi points is, therefore, a timely solution to ensure the continuity of taxi services in the region.
The integration of free Wi-Fi hotspots in the Yandex.Taxi driver app is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the service and address the challenges faced by taxi drivers and passengers in regions with unstable mobile internet connectivity. As the service is expanded to more cities, it is expected to play a significant role in maintaining the operation of taxi services during mobile internet blackouts.
Taxi drivers in Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog can now connect to free Wi-Fi hotspots through the Yandex Pro app, enabling them to receive ride requests and navigate effectively when mobile data is unavailable. This feature, which has been successful in Nizhny Novgorod, is also available in 11 additional Russian cities, totaling over 5,500 Wi-Fi points across these locations.
