Water and Wastewater Treatment Expansion by GEA - Enhanced with Flocmix Technology, Boosts Smart Environmental Technology
GEA Acquires Flocmix Technology to Boost Smart Environmental Solutions
In a strategic move to strengthen its position as a pioneer in water and wastewater technology, GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft has announced the acquisition of the Flocmix brand's products. This acquisition aims to provide customers with a broader range of solutions, from precise sensor technology to fully automated decanter solutions.
The Flocmix Centrate Sensor, a real-time monitoring device, is a key component of this acquisition. It is integrated into decanter centrifuges used in water and wastewater treatment plants, measuring the quality of the centrate leaving the decanter. This sensor detects changes in turbidity and color, and automatically adjusts the centrifuge’s operating parameters to maximize solids retention and improve effluent quality.
The Flocmix Centrate Sensor contributes to increased efficiency and sustainability by optimizing the centrifuge performance dynamically, reducing resource consumption and operating costs. It also enables automation and process reliability through integration in systems like GEA OptiPartner Intellicant, an intelligent, modular upgrade kit for GEA decanters.
The GEA OptiPartner Intellicant uses AI-supported control for continuous optimization and operational transparency. It provides monthly performance reports, increasing cost transparency and helping in further optimization. For instance, increasing the dry substance content by just 1% can save tens of thousands of euros annually in disposal costs.
Henni Weweler, head of GEA Business Line Environment, emphasizes that the Flocmix technology fits perfectly with their strategic focus. The acquisition aligns with GEA's strategic focus on smart decanter systems, aiming to increase efficiency, process reliability, and automation for wastewater treatment plants.
GEA is a globally recognized company, listed on the German MDAX and the European STOXX® Europe 600 Index, and a component of leading sustainability indices. In the 2024 financial year, GEA generated a turnover of around 5.4 billion EUR with over 18,000 employees in over 150 countries. Established structures at the site in Northern Germany will continue to provide proven quality, quick response times, and individual support to customers.
