Vektor brings back Christopher Bauder to Kraftwerk in a return engagement
In the heart of Berlin, the iconic former power plant Kraftwerk will once again play host to a mesmerising light and sound installation. This time, it's the work of German artist Christopher Bauder, known for his large-scale creations.
VEKTOR, Bauder's latest show, will run from 01.02 to 07.04 at Kraftwerk Berlin. The installation is inspired by mathematics, specifically the principles of vectors, and promises to be a sensory experience like no other.
Bauder has written the music for VEKTOR and will perform it live for the first time. The show marks his first album, spatialized and performed live. Despite not being a professional musician, Bauder is nervous but thrilled about this new venture.
The show will feature a network of 55 lasers mobilised by new motorised winches developed by Bauder and his team. These lasers will be controlled by a new software, designed specifically for the show. The Fraunhofer Institut has also been involved, creating an acoustic model of Kraftwerk to refine the show's three-dimensional sound.
The building itself will be transformed into a musical instrument during the show. Sound samples recorded in Kraftwerk will be used to create drum beats, and the walls will be incorporated into the sound. This immersive experience is sure to captivate visitors.
Bauder's goal is for his art pieces to work without any text or explanation, allowing visitors to interpret the art in their own way. This approach has proven successful, with museumgoers spending significantly more time at Bauder's exhibitions compared to the average 10 seconds spent on most artworks.
Visitors to Bauder's permanent exhibition space, DARK MATTER, usually spend between 60 and 90 minutes in the seven mesmerising rooms. Bauder's fascination with creating art that is physically bigger than himself is evident in his work, and VEKTOR is no exception.
This is not Bauder's first time exhibiting at Kraftwerk. He previously showcased SKALAR in 2018 and DEEP WEB in 2019. His return to Kraftwerk is one of the 24 Reasons to Love Berlin in 2024, as featured in issue 227 of Exberliner.
With VEKTOR, Christopher Bauder invites us to explore mathematics through art, promising a unique and immersive experience that will leave a lasting impression. Don't miss out on this incredible event at Kraftwerk Berlin.
