Users can now trial a novel WhatsApp feature, enabling them to broadcast status updates across groups.

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, has introduced a new feature in its Android beta version (2.25.22.11) - group-specific status updates. This innovative feature allows users to share updates that are visible only to members of a specific group, enhancing the efficiency of group communication.

The group status updates are created and posted directly within the group’s information screen. These updates are automatically shared among group participants, eliminating the need for individual tagging or notifications.

Key aspects of the feature include:

  • Visibility: Status updates are visible only to the members of the particular group.
  • Duration: Similar to regular status updates, these updates disappear after 24 hours, keeping group conversations clear and timely.
  • Access: Members can view these group-specific updates by tapping the group's icon or from the general Updates tab, where these posts are clearly marked and accessible only to group members.
  • Privacy: The status updates are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring the privacy and security of the content shared within the group.

This feature is designed to help users share important information or announcements in busy groups without overwhelming the chat with messages or repeated tagging.

Currently, WhatsApp is testing this feature publicly through the Google Play Beta Programme, making it available to selected users in the Android beta app.

This new feature is set to revolutionise group communication on WhatsApp, making it easier for users to share and receive updates within their groups.

  1. To effectively communicate within groups, users can now share important updates directly within the group's information screen using the new WhatsApp feature, known as group-specific status updates.
  2. These group-specific updates are visible only to members of the particular group, ensuring that shared information remains confidential and accessible only to intended recipients.
