The tech giant DJI is set to enter the robot vacuum market with the launch of its first-ever device, the DJI Romo, on August 6, 2025. The announcement event is scheduled for 8 PM Beijing time. Initially, the Romo will be available only in the Chinese market.

Priced around 4000 yuan (approximately Rs 46,000 in India), the DJI Romo positions itself in the mid-to-high-end premium segment of robot vacuums. This pricing strategy aligns with DJI's usual approach for its advanced technology products.

Developed over a four-year period, the Romo leverages DJI's expertise in visual navigation, intelligent obstacle detection, and precision pathing—technologies derived from their drone and camera business. Key rumored features include combined vacuum and mop functionality, an auto-emptying dock with a dust bag, pet detection, advanced room mapping and obstacle avoidance using DJI’s drone vision tech, and two distinct versions of the docking station.

The Romo is poised to compete with established premium brands like Roborock, Dreame, and Ecovacs in China, initially, with no confirmed international release date yet. The design of the Romo aims for a balance between innovation and practicality, avoiding the perceived failures of other brands' robot vacuums.

Rumours suggest that the Romo might have a self-emptying dock and water tanks for mopping. It could also feature mopping, self-washing, and drying pads. The navigation system might be able to avoid small obstacles more effectively than current robot vacuums, thanks to the LiDAR technology used in several DJI drones for creating detailed 3D maps.

However, tariffs might cause the DJI Romo to have a steeper price point than originally planned. As of now, the cost of the DJI Romo is not confirmed, but it is expected to be high-end, possibly costing over $1,000. Unfortunately, no definitive information is available about the Romo's actual cleaning specifications.

While the DJI Romo is expected to be released in China, there is no information about its potential release in other markets, including the United States. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new product from DJI.

The AI-driven technology and drone vision tech incorporated in the DJI Romo could potentially make it a formidable competitor in the tech market, even in sectors like gadgets and social media platforms such as Twitter. Google, with its vast resources and tech expertise, might find it interesting to explore partnership possibilities with DJI, especially considering the Romo's innovative features. As the robot vacuum market continues to evolve, the technology showcased by the DJI Romo could set new industry standards, influencing the development of future AI-enabled tech devices.
