Unveiling the Decentralized App Upon Its Launch Next Year

Line, the popular Japanese messaging app, is stepping into the world of Web3 by integrating blockchain technology, primarily through the launch of a LINE Messenger-based Mini Dapp ecosystem. This move follows a growing trend of social media applications incorporating Web3 elements.

The new Mini Dapp ecosystem will focus on gaming and utility applications, with games being the largest category of new decentralized applications (dApps), according to Seo. Line is planning to launch 30 in-app dApps by the end of January, suggesting a shift in its approach to Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).

In collaboration with METABORA, Line is distributing blockchain games within its app. Users can purchase in-game items directly using METABORA's native BORA token, improving usability. A notable feature slated for later in 2025 is the introduction of Gas Abstraction technology, which allows users to perform in-app transactions with BORA tokens without the need for KAIA tokens for gas fees.

METABORA and LINE NEXT are also working together to explore infrastructure developments to support stablecoins such as USDT. This initiative aims to enhance the Web3 gaming experience within Line's ecosystem by enabling more familiar and stable in-app payments.

Line's involvement with the Kaia blockchain, an Asia-focused, high-performance public blockchain, will provide seamless access to stablecoin-powered opportunities like tokenized real-world assets, NFT marketplaces, and in-game economies. This suggests that additional dApps related to payments, NFTs, and tokenized assets are planned or already being integrated within Line's ecosystem.

Line's daily active user base is 196 million, primarily in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. With this integration, Line is following in the footsteps of Telegram, which has been a leader in this trend, with several Web3 games on its platform.

In the first quarter of the year, Line plans to expand its Web3 offerings further, with the addition of more dApps and the enhancement of its infrastructure to support stablecoins. This could accelerate the mainstream adoption of Web3 gaming and improve the user experience for both creators and users.

However, it's worth noting that Sam Seo, chairman of Kaia DLT Foundation, believes that the current user interface of NFTs is too complicated for normal users. He thinks there was a mismatch between the intention and the result of NFTs, and that improvements in the UX and UI are necessary for mainstream adoption.
