Unfinished Agreements Remain in Alt-Willich, With 46 Contracts Pending Signature
The future of fiber-optic expansion in the district of Old Willich, Germany, is on the brink of collapse, with the potential expansion area failing in Anrath. This situation has left the Willich Citizens' Initiative, led by Peter Mackes, feeling disappointed.
Deutsche Glasfaser, a key player in the fiber-optic expansion, has halted its direct promotional activities in the area but has made its office available to the Bürgerinitiative until the end of September. The office, located at Peterstraße 20 in Willich, remains open for questions and personal consultations on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 3-6 pm.
The office window displays an overview map of the current expansion status, providing a clear view of the progress and the areas requiring more support. The map indicates that the necessary quota for the expansion of the last remaining area in Willich is 46 contracts short.
The active bundling procedure for the fiber-optic expansion in Willich ends on September 27. In light of this, Hannes Zühlsdorff, a voluntary member of the Bürgerinitiative, is urging all residents in Old Willich to secure a fiber-optic connection before this date.
The situation is critical due to the foreseeable, phased shutdown of DSL and VDSL technologies in Germany by around 2030/2031. Experts predict that classic copper lines will increasingly be replaced by fiber optics as they can no longer meet the increasing demands for bandwidth and stability.
The goal of the Willich Citizens' Initiative was to secure the entire Willich with fiber optics for the future. Hannes Zühlsdorff emphasizes the benefits of this for both individuals and the future of the city of Willich.
The appeal from Hannes Zühlsdorff is a call for action. He urges residents to submit their personal applications for the fiber-optic expansion at the office of the Bürgerinitiative "Pro Glasfaser Willich" before September 27 to ensure the continuation of the fiber-optic expansion in Willich.
