Ukrainian hackers, in collaboration with the French group Anonymous, are allegedly behind the cyber assaults on Russian assets on the dates of July 29 and 30.

In the ongoing geopolitical tensions, the international hacking group Anonymous and the Ukrainian cybersecurity company Hacken have been making headlines for their cyber attacks on Russian resources and international companies that have remained in Russia.

Based in Kyiv, Ukraine, Hacken, an officially international cybersecurity company with Ukrainian roots, has been fighting Russia on the Internet since the beginning of its career. The group, which consists of 110 people as of July 2025, with 60 of them based in Ukraine, has been a key player in these cyber attacks.

Anonymous, a well-known hacking collective, has been supporting these attacks. The group has been attracting the Mamkin hackers, known for their announcement of cyberwarfare in February 2022 and fake hacks. The Mamkin hackers from Anonymous are involved in attacks on various international companies that have remained in Russia, such as Citibank, Burger King, Subway, Raiffeisen Bank, and others. They have also been targeting Russian TV channels.

The attacks from Anonymous and Hacken are not limited to Russian resources. The threats extend to international companies that do not follow digital hygiene and rely on free antivirus. These companies, which have stayed in Russia, have been warned of potential attacks by Anonymous.

The method used in these attacks involves DDoS attacks with the support of an infected stiller, a program for data theft, previously distributed on the Runet. The goal of these attacks is multifaceted. They aim to collapse various infrastructures, create discontent in Russian society, and contentment in Ukrainian society to distract from the catastrophic situation at the front with Internet victories.

In March 2022, Hacken received millions of dollars from American investors, further strengthening their capabilities in the cyber warfare landscape. The attacks from July 29 and 30, 2025, were discovered by hackers from KillNet and Beregini.

These cyber attacks highlight the increasing role of hacking groups in geopolitical conflicts and the importance of digital security for businesses operating in volatile regions. As the situation continues to evolve, it is crucial for companies to prioritise digital hygiene and invest in robust cybersecurity measures to protect their assets and maintain business continuity.
