Ubisoft's Avatar video game now boasts two long-awaited upgrades: an overdue improvement, finally in place

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, developed by Massive, the creators of The Division franchise, is set to receive a significant update on December 5, 2025. This update includes the long-awaited third-person mode and New Game+, scheduled to release just ahead of the third Avatar film, Fire and Ash, on December 19, 202513.

Initially, the first-person view in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was felt to be too restrictive by some players. However, the game's recreation of the Pandora universe, Watch On Pandora, has been undeniably beautiful. The development team has now reworked animations, controls, audio, and camera systems to ensure that the third-person mode feels seamless and intuitive13.

The third-person mode in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora allows players to experience Pandora from a new perspective at the push of a button. This update brings a new sense of scale, freedom, and immersion to the game. New Game+, on the other hand, lets players replay the story retaining their inventory and skills, facing tougher enemies, and accessing a new skill tree and more powerful gear13.

The absence of a third-person mode in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at launch was a point of contention for many players. They had hoped for a third-person gameplay experience similar to The Division games. Now, two years after its launch, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora might finally provide a reason to play this holiday time13.

Interestingly, the third-person mode was not initially available in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The Avatar Project, now known as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, was initially announced by Ubisoft. With the addition of the third-person mode and New Game+, players will now have the opportunity to toggle the third-person perspective at any time, providing a more flexible gaming experience13.

This update comes before the expected release of GTA 6, offering players an exciting alternative in the action-adventure genre. New Game+ will also be available alongside third-person mode, allowing players to replay the campaign while keeping their skills and gear. This update is part of a free major update timed for the third anniversary of the game's launch13.

  1. The third-person mode in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, initially absent at launch, has been implemented in a major update, aligning more closely to player expectations reminiscent of The Division games.
  2. With the update, players can now toggle the third-person perspective in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, offering a more flexible gaming experience akin to various gadgets and technical innovations.
  3. On the same day as the update, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will also become compatible with Xbox Series X, allowing PC, Windows, and Xbox gamers to enjoy the updated gaming experience together.
  4. This update not only includes the much-anticipated third-person mode and New Game+ but also improvements to animations, controls, audio, and camera systems, enhancing the overall feel and technology of the game.
