New RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid: Toyota Unveils More Range SUV
In an attempt to extend its SUV lineup, Toyota has introduced the seventh-generation RAV4, boasting enhanced features and technology. With evolutionary advancements, the latest model serves every discipline, focusing on neutrality rather than excitement.
For a long time, Toyota has been criticized for manufacturing cars that lack excitement. Former CEO Akio Toyoda made a commitment to cease the production of dull vehicles. Yet, the compact SUV RAV4, positioned between the compact and mid-size classes, has traditionally been designed to be inoffensive. Nonetheless, the target audience values this unremarkable nature.
While not aiming for flamboyance, the RAV4's designers have given the model a contemporary and somewhat aggressive front. The updated headlight layout resembles the successful C-HR, and the side sill running along the C-pillar to the wheel arch provides a more muscular look. The angular wheel arches of the previous model have been retained, now forming a distinctive design theme throughout the vehicle's interior.
Physical pressure buttons remain an integral part of the RAV4's operation, contrary to trends in other car nations. The interior offers more than 25 inches of monitor, with digital warnings coexisting with traditional buttons. The prominent instrument cluster and central touchscreen provide an improved 3D image from the 360-degree camera, aiding in parking maneuvers.
Toyota's new plug-in hybrid variant is particularly exciting, offering an estimated electric driving range of 100 kilometers, thanks to its 23 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery. The battery can now be charged with 50 kW power (DC), allowing it to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. The electric unit's power output has been increased from 22 to 204 PS for smooth driving.
Toyota is also introducing a PHEV version with front-wheel drive and 268 PS for those who do not desire all-wheel drive. Customers can opt for two full hybrid variants, including one with front-wheel drive and 183 PS and the all-wheel-drive version with 191 PS.
For those craving a sportier driving experience, the GR Sport trim offers a hardware upgrade, with improved suspension and visual enhancements. The RAV4 is expected to hit dealerships in the spring of 2026.
