Tesla's entrance into India may be spearheaded by the Model Y, as hinted by reports. Here's a grip on potential prospects.

Tesla's entry into India appears to primarily center around the Model Y, offering a preview of what is to come.

The Tesla Model Y, known for its minimalistic design and advanced features, has officially been launched in India and is available for order as of July 2025. This marks Tesla's first model to enter the Indian market.

### Availability and Launch

Tesla has opened orders with token bookings starting at Rs. 22,220. Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025. Tesla has set up its first showroom in Mumbai, with plans for more experience centers, including one in New Delhi soon.

### Variants and Pricing

The Model Y is available in two variants in India:

- The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) is priced around Rs. 58.89 lakh to Rs. 61 lakh. - The Long Range RWD is priced around Rs. 67.89 lakh to Rs. 69.15 lakh.

These prices reflect the fully imported status of the vehicle, which leads to higher costs due to import duties since Tesla has no current plans to manufacture EVs in India.

### Design and Features

The car retains Tesla's signature minimalist and sleek exterior with a clean, smooth front bumper and a blank nose, emphasizing aerodynamic efficiency. Interior features include a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a secondary 8-inch screen for rear occupants, driver assistance systems, automatic climate control, wireless charging, and powered front seats.

The Model Y claims a WLTP driving range of up to 622 km per charge. It supports fast charging, gaining approximately 267 km of range in 15 minutes via Tesla's proprietary Supercharger network. Performance-wise, the Model Y can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5.6 seconds.

### Conclusion

The Tesla Model Y is available in India as an imported premium electric SUV, priced in the range of approximately Rs. 59 lakh to Rs. 69 lakh, inclusive of variants and options. Its minimalistic design, high-tech features, and strong range make it a significant entry in India's EV market, though the price point positions it as a luxury product for now.

The Model Y has a higher stance compared to the Model 3, a coupe-like outline, and features a panoramic glass roof. It might include features like a premium audio system, multi-zone climate control, and smartphone integration with the Tesla app.

The Long Range Model Y is powered by dual motors, and the Indian version of the Model Y is expected to have over-the-air updating of software. Advanced driver-assistance systems such as Autopilot could be provided in limited form in the Indian Model Y, depending on regulations.

Tesla is laying the foundation for its long-term strategy in India, with the Model Y's exterior characterized by flush door handles, slim headlamps, and an aerodynamic shape. The Model Y's design leans towards functionality rather than fanciness.
