Tesla's Giga Texas Factory Celebrates Model Y Production Milestone

Tesla's Giga Texas factory, the production site for Model Y and Cybertruck vehicles, recently marked a significant milestone with the production of 400,000 Model Y vehicles since its opening three years ago. To celebrate, the factory displayed a line of red Model Ys on the rooftop parking garage.

The celebration was captured by Joe Tegtmeyer, a regular aerial observer who posted drone footage of the event. In addition, a Tesla drone team was spotted filming the progress at the Megapack installation area.

The Model Y, produced at Giga Texas, uses Tesla's advanced Full Self-Driving (FSD) system to achieve Level 2 autonomy. This system enables adaptive cruise, Autosteer, and more advanced functions like city street Autosteer and traffic control features in active development or deployment.

The Cybertruck, also produced at Giga Texas, currently has adaptive cruise control but lacks Autosteer. However, it features autonomous parking/alignment capabilities for wireless charging.

In a recent video, Joe Tegtmeyer showcased Model Ys driving themselves from the production line to sorting lanes, a trip of nearly two miles. Some self-driving Model Ys were even seen traveling under a bridge and around the south side of the plant.

Meanwhile, construction is progressing at the Megapack installation area. Around two-thirds of the Megapacks are already in place, mounted on steel beams. Crews are preparing the area for expansion by raising the land and clearing out remnants of the old mining pits.

A new drainage pipe is being extended to a future water detention pond, and dirt is being hauled in daily from the north field using center dump trucks.

Cybertrucks were also observed at the facility, with some following the same path as the Model Ys and others exiting the "Cybertunnel." It is unclear whether these Cybertrucks were new production units or temporary storage vehicles.

An official Tesla video showcasing the Megapack work may be coming soon. Tesla's evolving autonomous vision continues to take shape at Giga Texas, with ongoing incremental software improvements enhancing the self-driving capabilities of its vehicles.

  1. The advancements in technology at Tesla's Giga Texas factory, particularly in the automotive industry, are evident with the Model Y's use of Full Self-Driving (FSD) system for Level 2 autonomy in cars.
  2. The celebration of the Model Y production milestone at Giga Texas showcased electric-vehicles driving themselves from the production line to sorting lanes, demonstrating Tesla's commitment to introduction of self-driving vehicles in the lifestyle of consumers.
  3. Apart from the Model Y, Tesla's Giga Texas factory also produces the Cybertruck, which while currently lacking Autosteer, has autonomous parking/alignment capabilities for wireless charging in the finance-intensive transportation sector.
  4. The Megapack installation area in Giga Texas, a crucial part of Tesla's efforts to revolutionize the industry through innovative energy solutions, witnesses ongoing construction and installation of technology-driven energy storage systems.
