Temporary & Permanent Coolant Leak Sealers: Top Products & Usage Guide
Drivers dealing with minor coolant leaks can now breathe a sigh of relief. Several products on the market promise to temporarily or permanently seal hairline cracks and small leaks in radiators and other cooling system components. These include Bar's Leaks Original, Bar's Leaks Liquid, Sonax Coolant Sealer, K-Seal K5501 Leak Repair, JLM Radiator Stop Leak, Xado Atomex Sealer, Liqui Moly Coolant Sealer, and Liqui Moly Pro-Line Coolant Sealer.
To use these sealers, first allow the engine to cool to prevent burns. Then, pour the product into the coolant expansion tank. After adding the sealer, start the engine and let it warm up. After about ten minutes, check for leaks. If the leak persists, wait another two to three days and check again. Some sealers, like Bar's Leaks Liquid, also lubricate the water pump.
Compatibility varies among products. Bar's Leaks Original works with nearly every cooler and coolant, while Liqui Moly Pro-Line Coolant Sealer can permanently seal leaks in aluminum coolers. Xado Atomex Sealer can handle cracks and damage up to 0.9 mm and protects against corrosion. JLM Radiator Stop Leak can seal leaks up to one millimeter in diameter.
While these products offer temporary or permanent solutions for minor leaks, they are not a substitute for professional repair. Always ensure the cooling system is in good condition to prevent further damage. As of now, there's no release date information for the Liqui Moly Coolant Sealer 3330.
