Tech Stocks Soar, Dow Mixed as AMD Deal Boosts Optimism
Markets closed mixed on Monday, with tech stocks hitting new highs while the Dow and S&P 500 saw modest gains. Meanwhile, AMD's stock surged following a major deal with OpenAI, and gold prices rose significantly.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 led the way, closing at a record high of 24,979 points, up 0.8 percent. This was driven by a surge in AMD's stock, which jumped by about a quarter following a billion-dollar deal with OpenAI. AMD's Chair and CEO, Lisa Su, is expected to deliver high-performance processors from the second half of 2026.
The S&P 500 also saw gains, closing at 6,740 points, up 0.4 percent. However, the Dow closed slightly lower, at 46,695 points, down 0.1 percent. U.S. markets overall showed no clear direction, with the euro also weakening slightly against the dollar.
Despite the mixed performance of U.S. markets, tech stocks continue to power ahead, with AMD's deal with OpenAI driving optimism. Gold prices also saw a significant increase, with an ounce trading at $3,960, up 1.9 percent. As for AMD, investors are looking forward to the upcoming processors from CEO Lisa Su, expected to hit the market in 2026.
