Target Revamps Retail Strategy with New Stores, CEO, and Exclusive Merchandise

Target is revamping its retail strategy with a new store concept, a leadership change, and expanded merchandise offerings. The first phase of the michaels new store design will launch this fall, with no store closures during construction. Meanwhile, Michael Fiddelke is set to become the new CEO on February 1, 2026, succeeding Brian Cornell after 11 years at the helm.

Target's second quarter results showed a net sales decline of 0.9% year over year to $25.2 billion and a store comp decrease of 3.2%. Despite this, the retailer is doubling its new merchandise offerings for the holiday season, with over half being exclusive to Target. The incoming CEO, Michael Fiddelke, aims to reposition Target as a merchandising authority and bring joy to customers on every visit.

Target has also been expanding its brand partnerships. It recently collaborated with sportswear brand Champion, launching a 500-piece collection in August. Additionally, the retailer will introduce a new apparel brand by fashion and beauty influencer Kahlana Barfield Brown, called KBB by Kahlana. In New York City, Target's SoHo store is set for a redesign, shifting its focus to style merchandise like apparel and beauty products. This comes after Target relaunched its @TargetStyle news today account during New York Fashion Week.

Target is transforming its retail experience with new store designs, expanded merchandise, and strategic partnerships. With Michael Fiddelke taking over as CEO, the company is poised to reinvigorate its merchandising strategy and enhance the customer experience.
