In a bid to increase the appeal of American-made cars, Ford has announced the launch of an affordable crossover with electric and hybrid powertrains, set to hit the market in 2027. This new model aims to fill the gap left by the discontinuation of the Ford Focus and cater to price-sensitive customers who find the electric Ford Explorer too expensive or lifestyle-oriented.

According to a recent survey, nearly half of potential American car buyers consider a significantly lower price compared to German or Asian brands as the deciding factor. However, high perceived fuel consumption (34 percent) and the policies of former US President Donald Trump (25 percent) are cited as the main reasons for avoiding American cars. Interestingly, women place a higher emphasis on the cost aspect than men when considering American cars.

The new Ford model will share the same platform as the Kuga but will be positioned more affordably with similar dimensions. It will be built in Spain at the plant that produces the compact SUV Kuga. The cheapest crossover with electric and hybrid drives in Spain for sale in 2027 will be produced by Ford, making it a compelling option for environmentally conscious consumers seeking cost-effective solutions.

Meanwhile, in Europe, Euromaster is expanding its franchise network in Germany, adding seven new partners. The expanded network will consist of nine locations, with the addition of Gross Auto House in Amberg and Paulsdorf, Haug in Stuttgart, Auto Technik Fulda in Fulda, Autotechnik Ickert in Limburg an der Lahn, SC Autotechnik in Dasing, CAP in Cologne (two locations), and Motorfahrzeuge & Marinetechnik Kamper in Viersen. Existing Euromaster partners Waldmüller Reifen & Autoservice (Denkendorf), Langenbacher (Villingen-Schwenningen), and Autocenter Enders (Tüßlingen) have extended their contracts long-term.

In related news, the Saarland state parliament has called for the reintroduction of an electric car subsidy. The electric car subsidy particularly targets small and medium incomes, as stated by SPD MP Timo Ahr, who emphasised that the purchase incentive should not only benefit the wealthy. The approved SPD motion also calls on the federal government to work towards an evolution of the EU's CO2 fleet targets.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it's clear that affordability and environmental consciousness are key factors influencing consumer decisions. With the introduction of the new Ford model and the expansion of Euromaster's network, it seems that the landscape for American cars in Europe is set to change.
