Struggle persists for Volkswagen subsidiary amidst a significant technical issue!

In a recent development, Audi, a Volkswagen subsidiary, has been addressing technical issues affecting the communication module in certain 2020 Audi A4 and A5 models. These issues have led to malfunctions in various features like lane keeping, emergency braking assistant, distance control, adaptive early warning system, emergency call assistant, Bluetooth, mobile phone connections, and navigation system position.

The problems, which have been reported by Audi customers to the specialist magazine "auto motor und sport", could potentially be caused by cell broadcasting messages in the mobile network. These messages, such as severe weather warnings, could overload the communication module, resulting in internal memory crashes.

One of the most concerning consequences of these failures is the potential for the car to suddenly accelerate, even if the speed limit is in place due to malfunctioning traffic sign recognition. This could have serious consequences for safety.

Audi has confirmed the problems and has been issuing technical service bulletins (TSBs) and manufacturer communications to address these issues. The solutions proposed include software updates and module replacements, which are being offered under warranty where applicable. Dealerships are performing the necessary diagnostics and repairs to restore full functionality of connectivity services and communication modules.

For the A4, recalls and service bulletins have been issued since late 2024, with updates issued as recently as July 2025. For the A5, service bulletins from mid-2025 record module failures affecting the SOS audible alert system and instructions for reinstalling navigation databases and connectivity-related fixes.

The ADAC has reported an increase in complaints about Audi, reflecting the widespread nature of these issues. Audi has promised a solution for the affected vehicles, which will be presented at the beginning of August.

The magazine "auto motor und sport" reported on this issue in its Thursday edition (31 July). While a solution has been announced, it is still pending as of now. Audi customers are advised to contact their local dealership for more information and to schedule any necessary repairs.
