Stellantis Unveils EV Platforms, Boosts Production for 2030 Goals
Stellantis has taken significant steps towards its electric vehicle (EV) goals. The company has unveiled its STLA Large and Medium platforms for full- and mid-sized EVs. It also plans to standardise components and invest in production facilities to boost EV output.
Stellantis aims to make EVs 100% of its passenger car sales in Europe and 50% in the U.S. by 2030. To achieve this, the company will use one power inverter design and standard microprocessor across all its EV drive modules. This move will lower costs and simplify production.
The automaker is preparing its plants in Tremery-Metz, France, and Kokomo, Indiana, to produce these drive modules. Additionally, Stellantis is investing 103 million euros ($107.6 million) to boost production at its plant in Szentgotthard, Hungary. This plant will produce EV drive modules, combining an electric motor, reduction gearset, and inverter, starting late 2026.
Stellantis is also increasing production of electrified dual-clutch transmissions at its Mirafiori complex in Turin, Italy, starting in 2023. These transmissions will be used in hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Stellantis' strategic moves, including standardising components, investing in production facilities, and expanding EV transmission production, position the company well for its 2030 EV sales targets. The upcoming EV drive modules from Szentgotthard will power future electric models across brands like Jeep, Fiat, Opel, and Peugeot.
