Sony Celebrates 30 Years of PlayStation with Exclusive Photography Book
Sony is marking the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation with a photography book, 'PlayStation: The First 30 Years'. The book offers a unique look into the gaming system's history and features work by renowned photographer Benedict Redgrove. It comes in two editions: a standard version and a limited deluxe edition.
The book, art directed by Michael C Place, who worked on the design of the iconic PlayStation game WipEout, is filled with photographs of the system's past and present technology. It also includes portraits and insights from the engineers and designers who made the PlayStation a global phenomenon.
Fans will find subtle nods to the gaming system's history in the book's design, such as ribbon bookmarks in PlayStation logo colors and an embossed circular design mimicking the first console's disc tray. The book also offers unprecedented access to PlayStation's prototypes, sketches, and models, including never-before-seen mockups.
The limited deluxe edition, of which there are 1,994 copies - honouring the year the first PlayStation launched - includes select prints and a presentation box. It is signed by both photographer Benedict Redgrove and PlayStation designer Teiyu Goto, who also designed the limited edition.
The book is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of next year. Pre-orders are open on the publisher's website, with the standard edition retailing for $125 / £95 and the deluxe edition for $325 / £245. This is a must-have for any PlayStation fan eager to explore the system's rich history and evolution over the past three decades.
