Solaris Sees Surge in Hydrogen Bus Demand as EU Mandate Looms

Solaris, a leading manufacturer of hydrogen-powered vehicles, has seen significant growth in demand for its cars. It has delivered nearly 200 such cars and has another 500 in production. The EU's 2035 zero-emission mandate for city buses is driving this trend.

Cologne, Germany, placed the largest order last month, with Regionalverkehr Köln (RVK) acquiring 108 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, supported by subsidies, and an option for 140 more. Azienda Veneziana della Mobilita in Italy also ordered 90 Urbino hydrogen cars.

Solaris has secured orders from 40 operators across 10 European countries, totalling over 700 cars. RVK Köln has added 18 articulated hydrogen cars to its existing fleet of 35, all from Solaris. The Urbino hydrogen car, produced by Solaris, is popular for its innovative design and environmental benefits.

The number of hydrogen cars registered for public transport in Europe increased by 38% from 2022 to the third quarter of 2023. Over 230 hydrogen refuelling stations are operational, with an additional 120 under construction to support this growth.

Solaris' leadership in deploying hydrogen technology in public transport is evident, with major orders from TPER in Bologna and other European cities. As the EU's 2035 mandate approaches, demand for zero-emission cars continues to rise, driving the need for more hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
