Solar energy company Sunnoo introduces off-grid electric vehicle charging station in New Mexico

In an effort to accelerate Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption, Sunnoo has developed a groundbreaking EV charging solution that offers fast, sustainable, and off-grid charging capabilities. The system, which is fully self-contained and solar-powered, is designed to eliminate dependency on electrical utility grids, making it ideal for deployment in remote or underserved areas.

Key Features of Sunnoo's EV Charging Stations

- **Grid-independent operation:** Sunnoo's charging stations are powered by a 6.5 kW bifacial solar array with a patented dual-axis, single-motor tracking turret, ensuring efficient energy harvesting throughout the day. - **Solar technology:** The solar array captures 50-62% more solar energy than fixed arrays, plus an additional 8-12% gain via software-driven positioning. - **Energy storage flexibility:** The battery capacity can be configured between 24 and 100 kWh, supporting varying energy storage needs and allowing customization based on site demands. - **Rapid, simple installation:** The system requires no permits, trenching, or utility access, allowing installation in minutes with minimal infrastructure impact. - **Durability and versatility:** Engineered for all-season use, including high-wind and remote environments, with a low surface load (<9 psi) to support diverse site placements. - **Charging capabilities:** It provides Level 2 charging through two NACS connectors powered by a 60-amp AC circuit, plus an optional 7.5 kW outlet for lighter vehicles like e-bikes. - **Modular expandability:** The system can add extra solar turrets, more charging connections, and larger batteries for broader, large-scale deployments.

Benefits of Sunnoo's EV Charging Stations

The features of Sunnoo's charging stations offer numerous benefits, including fast, sustainable, off-grid charging, reduced installation complexity and cost, and the potential to accelerate EV adoption by removing conventional infrastructure hurdles.

Target Markets for Commercialization

Sunnoo is seeking commercialization partners in higher education, municipalities, and commercial fleet operations. The company aims to provide off-grid charging for students, faculty, and visitors on college campuses, support public and community charging in municipalities, and provide sustainable, low-infrastructure charging solutions for commercial fleet operations.

In a statement, Martin Gero, Sunnoo's Founder and Chief Technology Officer, said that the company's mission is to eliminate infrastructure hurdles that have slowed EV adoption. Sunnoo has already deployed its first grid-independent EV charging station outside its Las Cruces, New Mexico manufacturing facility.

With its innovative grid-independent EV charging stations, Sunnoo is set to revolutionise the EV charging market, making it easier and more sustainable to charge electric vehicles, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
