Security software Sentra unveils protective mechanisms for Copilot users via Guardrail Tooling
Sentra, a leading technology company, has unveiled a new data security product tailored specifically for Microsoft 365 Copilot. The solution is designed to help organisations pair Copilot productivity gains with data-centric security controls.
The platform brings four core capabilities to Microsoft 365 environments: Discovery and classification, mapping permissions for files containing sensitive data across SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams, automatic application of sensitivity labels, and continuous monitoring and remediation of missing or incorrect labels.
Sentra's solution provides organisations with visibility into who can access sensitive content across the aforementioned platforms. It also prevents the overexposure of employee and user data, addressing risks exacerbated by redundant, unused, stale, and trivial (RUST) data, over-permissioned access, and incomplete sensitivity labeling.
The solution is integrated with Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for M365 Copilot, allowing it to automatically apply sensitivity labels based on customizable business logic. This integration ensures that Copilot adoption aligns with enterprise social security and compliance requirements.
Recent research from Silverfort indicates many organisations lack fundamental protections and processes for identity and user credentials. Sentra's solution addresses these gaps, providing views and filters to highlight over-permissioning, allowing administrators to enforce least privilege and manage unnecessary exposure.
Derek Ashmore, a principal consultant who advises clients on AI best practices, views AI security as a necessary step in any implementation process. He emphasises the importance of securing data in the age of AI and automation, and Sentra's solution is a significant step towards achieving that goal.
In a bid to expand its reach, Sentra has recently collaborated with Pax8 to bring training to more SMBs worldwide, focusing on supporting Copilot users. This collaboration is expected to further bolster the adoption of Sentra's data security solution.
Sentra's offering is positioned as a way to ensure Copilot adoption aligns with enterprise social security and compliance requirements, making it an essential tool for organisations adopting Microsoft 365 Copilot. Recent research indicates that more than 15% of business-critical files are exposed due to oversharing and excessive permissions, underscoring the need for a solution like Sentra's.
