BYD Reports July 2025 Sales Figures

Chinese automaker BYD has released its sales figures for July 2025, revealing a mixed performance across its various vehicle models.

The Qin family of models emerged as the best-selling BYD lineup, selling 53,907 units last month. However, this represents a year-on-year decline of 26.70 percent. On the other hand, the Qin family saw a month-on-month increase of 22.40 percent. The Song family, which includes the Dynasty series models and Ocean series models, came in second with 59,026 units sold, marking a year-on-year decrease of 22.64 percent.

The BYD Seal, a popular model, was the third-best-selling BYD model in July, with 46,850 units sold. The Ocean series, which includes the Song models, sold 179,512 units in July, up 17.51 percent year-on-year, but down 8.77 percent from June.

BYD's passenger vehicles, including the Dynasty series and Ocean series, collectively sold 313,295 units in July, a decrease of 3.81 percent year-on-year and 6.83 percent month-on-month.

The company's premium Denza brand sold 11,375 units in July, showing a year-on-year increase of 10.01 percent, but a month-on-month decrease of 27.93 percent. The Yuan family sold 22,977 units, while the BYD our X MPV sold 5,590 units, both showing increases compared to June.

The Dynasty series sold 133,783 units in July, a decrease from both the previous year and the previous month. The BYD Chaser 05 sold 10,303 units, showing a significant year-on-year decrease of 59.69 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 12.94 percent. The BYD Tang sold 12,002 units, showing a year-on-year decrease of 0.45 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 33.48 percent.

BYD's ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang sold 339 vehicles in July, showing a year-on-year decrease of 22.78 percent but an increase of 65.37 percent from June. The personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao sold 14,180 vehicles, showing a year-on-year increase of 669.82 percent but a month-on-month decrease of 24.99 percent.

The decline in sales can be largely attributed to a sharp drop in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales, which fell 22.6 percent compared to July 2024 and have been declining for four consecutive months. PHEVs accounted for 163,143 units in July, indicating a clear shift away from hybrids.

On the other hand, BYD's fully electric battery electric vehicles (BEVs) showed strong performance, with a 36.8 percent year-on-year increase in July sales, reaching 177,887 units. This was, however, accompanied by the first month-over-month decline in BEV sales since February.

Overall, BYD's July new energy vehicle (NEV) sales were 344,296 units, representing a minimal 0.07 percent year-on-year increase. This stall contrasts with a strong 27.35 percent increase in NEV sales during January–July 2025 overall, indicating that the July drop was an exception rather than the trend for the year.
