Ripple's CEO marks the eighth year of XRP Escrow with a historic tweet.

Ripple's XRP escrow system, designed to provide stability and predictability to the XRP market, continues to be a topic of interest in the cryptocurrency world. Here's an update on the current status of Ripple's XRP escrow and its impact on the circulating supply:

Escrow Holdings and Releases

As of August 2025, Ripple holds over 36.6 billion XRP in its escrow accounts [3][4]. In a departure from tradition, no XRP was unlocked from escrow in August 2025, marking the first time since early 2018 [4][5]. However, on August 1, Ripple moved large amounts back into escrow, sparking speculation about a potential delayed release [4][5].

Impact on Circulating Supply and Price

The escrow mechanism is designed to maintain stability in the XRP supply by releasing tokens for ecosystem development while returning unused portions to escrow [1]. Despite criticisms that regular releases could depress XRP's price, lawyer Bill Morgan argues that the system supports price stability, and the token's value has increased during release periods [1].

Despite volatility in XRP's price, recently rising and then declining, regulatory clarity and institutional adoption have positioned XRP for potential future growth [2].

Regulatory Context and Market Dynamics

Recent legal developments affirm XRP's non-security status, enhancing its potential for institutional adoption and price growth [2]. Major banks are increasingly using XRP for cross-border transactions, contributing to its growing demand and potential price surge [2].

At press time, XRP is trading at $3.11. The total available XRP is currently 99,985,835,620 XRP, with the current circulating supply standing at 64,363,269,902 XRP. The number of XRP active accounts is nearing seven million at 6,837,166.

Each transaction on the XRP Ledger includes a small amount of XRP that is permanently destroyed, helping with spam prevention and network efficiency. The current XRP Ledger count is 98,108,655.

A total of 14,164,380 XRP have been burned natively via transaction fees on the XRP Ledger. Meanwhile, 35,608,401,338 XRP tokens are currently escrowed.

A recent tweet by Bill Morgan, an XRP enthusiast, highlighted a 2017 post by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse about the XRP escrow, reiterating its purpose for supply predictability and trusted, healthy XRP markets [4]. However, the tweet did not provide any new information about the release of XRP from escrow.

In 2017, Ripple transferred 55 billion of its 80 billion XRP tokens into an escrow account, with a maximum of one billion tokens per month able to be released [4]. The tweet did not specify whether this transfer was related to the recent movement of XRP back into escrow.

In conclusion, Ripple's XRP escrow continues to play a crucial role in managing XRP's supply, while regulatory clarity and institutional adoption are reshaping the token's market dynamics. The current status of the escrow and the price volatility of XRP underscore the need for continued monitoring and analysis in the cryptocurrency market.
