Advancement in Academia: Jugend Forscht National Finals at Hamburg's Bundeswehr University

The anticipated competition for Germany's Jugend Forscht National Finals has commenced at Helmut-Schmidt University of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg. This year, 167 young scholars in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology will unveil 112 research projects, as announced by the association and the university. The finalists have triumphed at one of the sixteen regional competitions.

For the first two days, the young researchers and jury members will conduct their deliberations privately. However, on Saturday, interested onlookers can access learning sessions about the research projects.

Some of the projects on display will include an e-bike that harnesses solar energy, wheelchair retrofits for enhanced mobility, software designed to aid breast cancer detection, and a method for producing diesel fuel using the Kolbe electrolysis. Before the competition, a MINT campus boasting cutting-edge technologies from land, sea, air, and cyberspace will open at Bundeswehr University.

The rewarding ceremony in seven categories will take place on Sunday at Lufthansa Technik in the presence of Federal President and Jugend Forscht patron Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Jugend Forscht's 60th national competition assumes the patronage of Helmut-Schmidt University in the jubilee year, with a motto of "Turn questions into answers." During this year's competition, 10,350 young individuals submitted 5,664 projects.
