Release of Borderlands 4 performance update now available, prioritizing PC gaming experience
Gearbox Software has released a patch for their popular looter-shooter game, Borderlands 4, aimed at addressing PC performance issues that have been plaguing the game since its release.
The patch, announced earlier this week, has resolved several technical glitches that have been causing problems for players. One of the most significant issues addressed in the patch is a progression blocker in the mission "Talk to Zadra," where the objective could fail if players exited and relaunched mid-dialogue. Another issue that has been corrected is the Reward Center stopping to work after claiming the Gilded Glory Pack rewards.
The patch notes also include addressing crashes tied to animation states, audio, collision checks, and various GPU-related crashes. Additionally, the patch has updated loot pools, ensuring that Gilded Glory Pack guns no longer appear in standard chests.
Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox Software, has been criticized for his comments about Borderlands 4, including challenging players to break the servers, labeling the game as "a premium game for premium gamers," and suggesting that performance issues might be due to low spec hardware. However, he has recently stated that the negative user reviews for Borderlands 4 are being overblown.
Despite the patch, many players have been experiencing stuttering issues in Borderlands 4, and some have resorted to creating their own solutions. Gearbox has advised PC players that changing any graphics settings may require shaders to recompile, and playing for at least 15 minutes is necessary to assess the impact on performance.
Gearbox has also announced that a FOV slider option is coming for consoles, and they have released the Break Free pack of goodies for all players. The company has stated that they are reading all feedback regarding PC performance issues and are working to improve stability and performance.
Borderlands 4 currently has a "Mixed" rating on Steam, with most negative reviews citing performance issues. Rich Stanton, a games journalist with 15 years of experience and the author of a Brief History of Video Games, has commented on the situation, stating that while the game is fun, the performance issues are frustrating for players.
Nearly every major Borderlands game has had performance issues on release, and Borderlands 4 is no exception. However, with the latest patch and Gearbox's commitment to improving the game, players can look forward to a smoother experience in the future.
