The electric vehicle (EV) market in Australia is seeing a shift, with Fiat announcing reduced drive-away prices for its 500e electric hatchback and the performance-oriented Abarth 500e Scorpionissima. The special offers are expected to run until 30 September 2025 or until stock is available.

The Fiat 500e La Prima, a two-door city electric hatchback measuring 3.63 meters in length, now has a drive-away price of $38,990. Powered by an 87 kW front-mounted electric motor with 220 Nm peak torque, the La Prima can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 9 seconds. Equipped with a 42 kWh battery, it offers up to 311 km of WLTP range and up to 550 liters of boot space with the rear seats folded.

The Abarth 500e Scorpionissima, originally priced at $60,500, now has a drive-away offer of $43,990. This performance-oriented electric hatchback comes with a more powerful 114 kW motor with 235 Nm torque, and a 42 kWh battery delivering a range of up to 253 km. The Scorpionissima features unique styling cues, including simulated engine sounds modeled on petrol Abarth models, and possible bright Acid Green paint options.

Charging the Abarth 500e's battery pack from 10-80% takes approximately 35 minutes, and it can DC fast charge at up to 85 kW, which is quick for a car with its small battery. The 500e, on the other hand, can DC charge at the same speed, making both models suitable for quick charging.

It's worth noting that the EV market is expected to see price reductions in the coming months for small niche models. Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, a company specializing in Australian EV data, insight reports, and trends, is a mechanical engineer who drives a red Tesla Model 3. Akhtar predicts that these price reductions are a sign of the growing popularity and affordability of electric vehicles.

In conclusion, Fiat's reduced drive-away prices for the 500e La Prima and Abarth 500e Scorpionissima offer a great opportunity for those interested in electric vehicles to experience the performance and efficiency of these models at a lower cost. With three driving modes - Turismo, Scorpion Street, and Scorpion Track - and quick charging capabilities, the Abarth 500e Scorpionissima is a particularly appealing option for those seeking a sportier electric vehicle experience.
