Ray-Ban's Third Generation Smart Glasses: What We've Learned Up Until Now

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses (Gen 3) Set to Revolutionise Smart Eyewear

The much-anticipated Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses (Gen 3) are gearing up for a late 2025 release, promising significant upgrades in design, AI capabilities, battery life, and support for prescription lenses.

Design and Prescription Lens Support

The Gen 3 glasses will be available in two styles, codenamed "Aperol" and "Bellini," designed to accommodate a wider range of prescription lenses. This addresses the issue of previous models not fitting some lenses properly by separating optical frames from sunglasses [1][2].

AI Capabilities and Battery Life

The glasses will incorporate the next-generation Meta AI assistant, capable of running continuously for hours, a substantial improvement from the current 30-minute runtime. This AI is expected to support real-time face recognition, object recognition, scene understanding, and enhanced memory functions, such as remembering where you left personal items like your wallet or car keys [1][2].

Improved battery life is a key highlight, with the possibility to exceed the performance of Oakley Meta HSTN glasses—which already offer up to 8 hours per charge—thanks to a newer Qualcomm AR1+ Gen 1 chipset [1][3].

Additional Features

Other features will include an sEMG bracelet for effortless control, open-ear speakers, and a 5-mic array for voice commands and communication [1][3]. The design will likely include a single display embedded in one lens.

Release Date and Price

Although no exact release date is confirmed, leaks from July 2025 suggest the glasses are planned for launch in the second half of 2025 or soon thereafter, possibly within the fourth quarter [1][2][4]. Specific pricing details have not been officially disclosed, but given the advanced features and positioning as a premium wearable, the cost is expected to be in line with or higher than previous models.

Table of Features

| Aspect | Details | |----------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------| | Styles | Two models: "Aperol" (optical) and "Bellini" (sunglasses) | | AI Features | Next-gen Meta AI assistant; continuous hours-long operation; face & object recognition; scene understanding | | Display | Single display inside one lens | | Battery Life | Greatly improved; potentially surpassing 8 hours per charge | | Controls | sEMG bracelet | | Connectivity | Likely Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 | | Compatibility | iOS and Android | | Release Date | Expected late 2025 | | Price | Not confirmed, likely premium segment |
