Pre-owned smartphones in Egypt can now be bought now, pay later thanks to the joint venture between Valu and MobileMasr, marking the introduction of the country's inaugural peer-to-peer buy now, pay later (BNPL) service for such devices.
In a groundbreaking move, Valu, a leading universal financial technology powerhouse in MENA, has partnered with MobileMasr, Egypt's first tech-driven platform for second-hand electronics. This partnership aims to launch the first peer-to-peer Buy-Now, Pay-Later (BNPL) service for pre-owned smartphones in Egypt.
The launch of this P2P BNPL service makes second-hand devices more affordable for Egyptians, opening up a new growth horizon for Valu. By moving beyond the traditional merchant-focused BNPL model, Valu is tapping into the Peer-to-Peer market.
The service allows individuals to buy and sell mobile phones directly from one another using Valu's flexible payment plans and MobileMasr's patented diagnostic technology. The customer journey begins when a seller lists their used mobile device on MobileMasr and verifies it using the platform's patented micro diagnostic tool. During the transaction, the seller generates a payment link or a secure QR code that the buyer scans to initiate checkout.
The buyer can select Valu as the payment method, receiving a payment plan of up to 60 months, plus a limited-time offer of up to 12 months with 0% interest, 0% purchase fees, and 0% down payment. MobileMasr's system validates the GPS location, asks both buyer and seller to cross-validate their national IDs, and confirms product details to ensure accuracy and security.
Seller payouts are processed by MobileMasr within four working days. Potential buyers can connect with the seller and arrange a meeting to inspect the device and conduct the sale. The partnership between Valu and MobileMasr introduces an entirely new way of transacting in Egypt's peer-to-peer economy.
The partnership between Valu and MobileMasr is a natural next step in MobileMasr's mission to make second-hand electronics safe, simple, and financed. MobileMasr's patented diagnostic technology transforms the second-hand market for mobile phones by bringing trust, transparency, and security. The service extends the lifecycle of second-hand devices, reducing electronic waste and aligning with environmental sustainability goals.
Valu's mission is to empower individuals with innovative financial solutions that go beyond traditional retail. This partnership with MobileMasr is a testament to this mission, providing Egyptians with a more accessible and secure way to buy and sell second-hand mobile devices. The P2P BNPL service is set to revolutionise the way Egyptians transact, making second-hand devices more accessible and affordable while promoting environmental sustainability.
