Police Seize Dangerously Modified VW Golf in Birkenfeld
Police in Birkenfeld have seized a dangerously modified VW Golf during a traffic check on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The car's Airride air suspension system posed a significant safety risk.
The Golf, which had an Airbnb air suspension system listed on its registration certificate, was found to have its wheels touching the inner side of the fender at a 0.0 bar suspension setting. This serious deficiency put the driver and other road users at risk.
Police suspect that the suspension travel limiter was either removed, manipulated, or not functioning due to wear or defect. The driver, whose name has not been disclosed, now faces a fine and at least one point in Flensburg. The cost of the illegal modification is likely to be the larger factor in the penalty.
Officers advise having such modifications done by professionals and ensuring they adhere to legal requirements for road safety and cost savings. Violations can result in the vehicle's operating permit being revoked.
The Golf has been seized and sent to an inspection center to confirm the police's findings. The driver must now address the safety issues and face the penalties for the illegal modification.
