Photovoltaics: From Niche to World's Cheapest Energy Source

Sebastian Muissus, CEO of landverpachten.de, has highlighted the remarkable journey of photovoltaics, transforming it from a niche technology to the world's most affordable energy source.

Muissus credited the German organization EUROSOLAR for driving this shift since 1988. They've fostered political and economic conditions to hasten renewable energy adoption.

Photovoltaics' evolution is astonishing. Once a costly innovation, it's now a mass product, with prices plummeting by over 90% in two decades. Solar module efficiency has soared from around 12% to over 22% in the same period. Germany's photovoltaic capacity has surged from mere megawatts in the 1990s to over 80 gigawatts today.

Muissus, motivated by securing a livable future, believes storage solutions and cross-sector collaboration can accelerate the energy transition faster than anticipated.

Photovoltaics' rapid development demonstrates that decisive action can drive significant change. With continued innovation and collaboration, the energy transition can become a reality sooner than many expect.
