Perth and Kinross Boosts Mobile Signal for O2 Users with Six New 4G Small Cells
Perth and Kinross Council has partnered with Freshwave to boost mobile signal for O2 customers in key public areas. The open access agreement has seen six new 4G outdoor small cells installed, enhancing coverage in Perth city centre and surrounding towns.
The small cells, compact and discreet, are attached to existing infrastructure like lamp posts. They have improved signal in busy spots such as outside Perth Railway Station and on the high street. This project is part of O2's £700 million Mobile Transformation Plan to provide fast, reliable coverage across the UK.
Neil Barnes of Freshwave praised the collaboration, highlighting the benefits of open access approaches for robust mobile coverage without increasing street clutter. Dr Robert Joyce of O2 echoed this, expressing satisfaction with the enhanced connectivity. Councillor Eric Drysdale of Perth and Kinross Council also expressed excitement about the partnership, expecting it to benefit businesses and residents alike.
The project has seen six new 4G outdoor small cells installed in Perth city centre, with previously unused mobile nodes now active in Pitlochry, Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy, Crieff, and Coupar Angus. This collaboration between Perth and Kinross Council, Freshwave, and O2 is expected to significantly improve mobile coverage and connectivity in the region.
