OpenAI's Orion: A Giant Leap Towards AGI in December 2023

OpenAI is set to unveil its latest AI model, Orion, by December 2023. This advanced model, 100 times more powerful than its predecessors, brings the company closer to achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Initially, Orion will be offered to collaborating companies for developing unique features and products, not immediately via ChatGPT.

Orion, designed for text understanding and generation with multimodal capabilities, could potentially replace GPT-4. It's expected to be offered to Microsoft developers in November, with a possible launch adjustment. However, no information is available yet on which companies will receive access to Orion before its general release.

OpenAI's pursuit of AGI has raised concerns about safety and ethical implications. The company has disbanded the AGI Readiness department, leading to staff redistribution. Security expert Miles Brandage left OpenAI following this change. Earlier this year, OpenAI also shut down the Superalignment group, led by co-founders Ilya Sutskever and Jan Leike.

OpenAI's Orion, a significant step towards AGI, is expected to enhance text understanding and generation. Its initial offering to collaborating companies will shape its future applications. Meanwhile, the company continues to navigate safety and ethical concerns surrounding AI development.
