Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Competition #3 Now Live on Nintendo Switch Online
Get ready, gamers! The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Competition #3 is now live on Nintendo Switch Online. This global event, held on July 18, 2024, brings classic NES games to the modern Nintendo Switch platform.
The competition features five challenging levels from iconic games such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Excitebike, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby's Adventure, and Super Mario Bros. These levels have been adapted for the Switch Online environment, maintaining the original gameplay while providing a fresh twist.
For instance, the boss fight against Morton in Super Mario Bros. 3 retains many of the original NES game behaviors but includes adjustments, such as the ground pound causing platforms to rise, mimicking classic attack patterns without some prior game effects like magic attacks.
While the specific rules and scoring systems for Competition #3 aren't fully detailed, participants can expect timed or scored runs through classic NES game challenges, head-to-head or tournament brackets, and gameplay using Nintendo Switch Online’s NES game ports, faithful to the originals but sometimes with modern overlays or scoring systems.
To participate, you'll need a Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and a Nintendo Account for online features. The competition will be available from the current date until 8/5 at 1:59 a.m. PT.

Remember, the game Nintendo World Championships: NESTM Edition is part of the Nintendo Switch Online service, offering more than 150 challenging moments from 13 classic NESTM games. The game is not available in its entirety, as NES games are not included in their entirety in the game.
