New Robotics Center to Rise in Neuwied, Backed by Institutions and Ministers
A new robotics center is set to rise on the ASAS site in Neuwied, backed by multiple institutions and key scientific leaders. The project, which has received support from state government members, aims to create a continuous education chain in robotics and foster innovation.
The site has undergone significant renovations, with around 15,000 tons of plant scrap removed and 30,000 tons of material refilled into pits. A new concrete floor has been laid, and fire protection measures implemented, giving the halls a 'spotless' look. The center will focus on application support, knowledge transfer, startup promotion, and connecting with companies willing to cooperate.
The planned robotics center involves multiple institutions, including the University of Bremen, where doctoral candidates work on cognitive robots. Key scientific leaders from universities like RWTH Aachen and TU Berlin will also contribute their expertise. A technology park is planned for the site, featuring the 'BiFAR' - an education, research, and application center for robotics led by the University of Koblenz.
Minister of Research Clemens Hoch visited the site, expressing interest in the project. He joined Ministers of Economics Daniela Schmitt and Interior Michael Ebling in supporting the initiative. During his visit, partners demonstrated their robotics capabilities, including automatically loaded drones, cognitive robot assistants, and automated mobile robots.
The planned Robotics Center aims to support a continuous education chain in robotics, from school to doctoral projects. Mayor Peter Jung described the project as 'exciting' and emphasized the need for collective effort to make it a reality. With the support of multiple institutions and government ministers, the center is poised to become a hub for robotics innovation.
