"New Design, Technology Introduced for MG4 Electric, Includes Innovative Semi-Solid Battery"

The automotive industry is abuzz with excitement as MG, the British-origin brand now owned by the Chinese conglomerate SAIC, prepares to launch the first mass-produced electric car worldwide featuring a semi-solid-state battery. The new MG4 Electric, a compact hatchback, promises to redefine electric vehicle (EV) technology with its advanced battery system.

The MG4 Electric is powered by a 120 kW/163 PS electric motor and boasts a 70 kWh battery, developed by QinTao Energy. This battery contains only 5% liquid electrolyte, resulting in an energy density of approximately 180 Wh/kg. This high energy density allows the MG4 Electric to offer a driving range of up to 537 km (according to the Chinese CLTC cycle) on a single charge, making it a front-runner in the race for longer EV range.

In cold weather conditions (-7°C), the new battery in the MG4 Electric is said to be 13.8% more efficient compared to standard lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, giving MG4 an advantage in winter climates. This improved efficiency is a significant step forward in the development of EV technology, particularly in regions with harsh winters.

The MG4 Electric is based on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. It has a larger size, with a length of 4.4 meters and a wheelbase of 2.75 meters, providing ample space for passengers and cargo. The car's interior features the MG×Oppo cockpit system, offering an immersive driving experience.

The new MG4 Electric is significantly lighter than its predecessor, weighing 1,485 kilograms. This weight reduction, coupled with the advanced battery technology, promises improved performance and efficiency.

While the range of the new battery in the MG4 Electric has not been specified according to the WLTP norm, the LFP battery in the current base version offers a range of around 350 kilometers. It's worth noting that in markets outside China, the MG4 is also available with other battery options and motor configurations, though these may not feature the semi-solid-state battery.

Priced between roughly $11,000 to $16,500, the MG4 Electric positions itself as an affordable option with advanced battery technology, targeting wide adoption in the mass market. This affordable price point, combined with enhanced battery performance and cold-weather efficiency, makes the MG4 Electric a compelling choice for consumers looking to transition to electric vehicles.

The second generation of the MG4 Electric will be launched in Europe, marking a significant advancement in the EV landscape. With its innovative semi-solid-state battery technology, the MG4 Electric is set to redefine the future of electric vehicles.

The MG4 Electric, with its semi-solid-state battery and advanced technology, is poised to reshape the electric vehicle (EV) lifestyle by offering longer driving ranges and improved performance, even in cold weather conditions. This affordable EV option, featuring the MG×Oppo cockpit system, promises to revolutionize the automotive industry, especially in regions with harsh winters, while promoting a sustainable lifestyle through electric vehicles.
