New appointment at ClearCourse: Former PPRO and SagePay executive assumes role as chairperson

Simon Black, a seasoned tech entrepreneur with a proven track record of leading companies to success, has been appointed as the chair of the board at London-based software provider ClearCourse.

In his new role, Black aims to support the team in delivering on ClearCourse's mission to help small and mid-size UK businesses grow. His appointment is aimed at steering the firm's next phase of growth, focusing on vertical software and embedded payment solutions for SMEs.

Black's experience in the tech industry is extensive. Before leading ClearCourse, he was responsible for a tenfold increase in revenue at SagePay, a payments company. Under his leadership, PPRO, an alternative payments company, became a global player in the industry.

Currently, Black serves as the chair of Onafriq and FORESIGHT, the latter of which he founded. He is also an advisor to companies such as TrueLayer and Cleverbridge.

Christina Hamilton, CEO of ClearCourse, expressed her excitement about Black's appointment, stating that his experience in supporting founders through business transitions will be invaluable in supporting ClearCourse's ambitious plans for growth.

ClearCourse, under Black's leadership, has already made significant strides in its expansion. In 2025, the company acquired three firms: Computers for Flooring, AvonData (Rezcontrol), and Davidson Richards. These acquisitions are part of ClearCourse's strategy to expand its footprint in key vertical markets.

Black believes that technology can be a crucial factor in helping SMEs survive and thrive, especially in challenging trading times. He looks forward to supporting ClearCourse's management team in helping their customers scale and prosper by adopting ClearCourse's mission-critical sector-specific software and embedded payment products.

In addition to the news about ClearCourse, it's worth mentioning that the North East AI Growth Zone is expected to bring £30bn investment and 5,000 jobs to the region, further boosting the tech sector in the UK.
