NATO & EU Unveil 'Drone Wall' Initiative to Protect European Skies

NATO and EU officials are gathering in Copenhagen to discuss a united response to Russia's drone incursions. A key proposal is the 'drone wall' initiative, a layered network of detection and interception systems to protect European skies. The project, also known as 'Project Constellation', aims to bolster existing anti-drone capabilities of individual EU members.

The need for such a system was highlighted by recent drone incursions, including the closure of Copenhagen airport. Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, has called for immediate actions. Ukraine's expertise in drone warfare could play a crucial role in developing this initiative.

The drone wall is expected to take at least three to four years to develop, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. However, Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Silina believes it could be implemented in a shorter timeframe. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte supports the initiative, citing its cost-effectiveness.

The drone wall initiative, part of the broader European Sky Shield Initiative, is a significant step towards enhancing Europe's air defense. With the backing of key officials and the potential for rapid implementation, it aims to better protect European skies from drone threats.
