In a remarkable year for digital spiritual engagement, the YouVersion Family of Apps has seen unprecedented growth and increased interaction with Scripture. The annual review of the apps, which includes the Bible App, Bible App Lite, and Bible App for Kids, revealed a record year for app installs and daily use in 2019.

The most shared Bible verse of the year was Philippians 4:6, which encourages believers not to worry but to bring their concerns to God through prayer with thanksgiving. This powerful message of comfort and prayer amid anxiety resonated deeply with a global audience seeking peace and reassurance, particularly during a time when many people faced uncertainty and stress.

The verse's popularity is reflected in the 30% increase in overall app use from the previous year. In fact, users engaged deeply—5.6 billion chapters were listened to, 35.6 billion chapters read, and over 1.1 billion days spent in Bible plans in 2019. Sharing of verses like Philippians 4:6 indicates a preference for messages centered on peace, prayer, and trust in God.

Significant Bible engagement was also observed in Africa and Latin America, with countries such as Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Argentina, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, and Nigeria reflecting active digital participation. This suggests cultural or regional preferences for certain Scriptural themes, possibly influenced by socioeconomic factors, church traditions, and denominational backgrounds.

Central Africa and Eastern Africa saw growth of 54% and 56% respectively in daily Bible engagement, while Africa as a whole experienced the highest national increase in daily use of the Bible App for Kids at 13%. The fastest growth in daily use of the YouVersion apps was recorded in Central Africa, Eastern Africa, and Latin America.

YouVersion has been intentional to add more partnerships and regionally-specific content in Latin America over the last several years. This has contributed to the significant growth in Bible engagement in countries like Nicaragua (107%), Venezuela (74%), and Bolivia (52%).

Engagement with YouVersion Prayer features went up by 46% this year compared to last year, indicating a growing need for prayer support among users. Volunteers of YouVersion's prayer team responded to prayer requests in 20 languages, offering comfort and guidance to millions around the world.

The words prayer and peace were among the top in-app search terms this year, further emphasising the global audience's spiritual appetite for verses that offer hope and encourage trusting God.
