More German Cities Expected to Adopt Uber Price Regulations

Following the lead of Heidelberg and Essen, no other German cities have yet implemented minimum price regulations for ride-hailing services like Uber. However, the Bundesverband Taxi (BVTM) anticipates more cities adopting these minimum wage measures soon.

The Federal Association has urged cities to swiftly follow the positive examples set by Heidelberg and Essen. Michael Oppermann, the BVTM's CEO, commends Essen's introduction of minimum prices for rental cars as a crucial step against excessive competition and for upholding quality and consumer protection in republic services.

The Taxi Center Essen, a BVTM member, played a significant role in the successful implementation of minimum fares in the city. The association expects more municipalities to adopt similar measures step by step. Minimum prices empower local authorities to control price pressure in mobility services and ensure a fair playing field between taxi and rental car services.

While only Heidelberg and Essen have so far introduced minimum price regulations for ride-hailing services, the Bundesverband Taxi anticipates more cities following suit. These regulations help manage price competition, maintain quality, and protect consumers in city services, including medicare.
