Vodafone Expands Mobile Network in Uelzen, Germany
Residents of the municipality of Uelzen are set to benefit from improved mobile connectivity, as Vodafone GmbH announces plans to install additional antennas for LTE and 5G. This expansion is part of a larger initiative by the communication conglomerate to expand its mobile data highways across Germany.
The new mobile communication station, now online in Wrestedt, connects 3,000 residents and guests to the mobile data highway. This 5G station, equipped with the latest emergency call technology AML and disaster warning system Cell Broadcast, will enable emergency calls and disaster warnings.
Tanja Richter, Vodafone's Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the importance of mobile communication as a quality of life and an essential infrastructure factor for the local economy and jobs. By mid-2026, Vodafone plans to implement two more mobile communication construction projects in the district.
Currently, Vodafone operates 45 mobile communication stations in the district, all of which are equipped with the mobile broadband technology LTE. Of these, 34 stations also have the broadband technology 5G on board, allowing over 95 percent of the inhabited areas in the district to be supplied with 5G.
The remaining eleven stations that are still broadcasting without 5G will be gradually upgraded and converted to 5G stations. Vodafone is reaching two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network. The company also boasts a machine network (Narrowband IoT) that covers over 97% of German territory for industry and business.
Vodafone Germany generates an annual turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees. The communication giant aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and net-zero by 2040, with 100% of its electricity needs already being covered by renewable energies.
As for the specific details of Vodafone's expansion plans for additional mobile communication stations in Uelzen by mid-2026, including the number and types of new stations, it would be advisable to consult Vodafone’s official network rollout announcements, regulatory filings, or request local municipal planning documents where such infrastructure projects are typically recorded.
Cell Broadcast technology, installed in the new mobile communication station, warns the surrounding population via smartphone about hazardous situations such as major fires, gas explosions, or floods. The installation of additional antennas for LTE and 5G in two existing sites will also increase network capacities.
This expansion stage marks the start of Vodafone's efforts to strengthen its mobile network in the district of Uelzen, ensuring better connectivity for its residents and visitors.
