The project was initially started around 2021 but was paused in 2022 due to technical conflicts, notably between the cameras and a nerve-signal-based control system. Meta has since resumed development, likely using Android software and a Qualcomm CPU, with a focus on AI-powered features that may include gesture control and advanced health tracking.

Regarding launch timing, there is no official confirmation from Meta yet, but several reports strongly indicate the smartwatch might be teased or launched at the Meta Connect conference, scheduled for September 17–18, 2025.
