Meta, the tech giant, has made a significant stride in the world of wearable technology with the announcement of its latest products during its annual Connect event. Among the new offerings are the next-generation AI-powered Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses and the Meta Oakley Vanguard sports glasses.

The Meta Oakley Vanguard sports glasses are designed for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting a water- and dust-resistant design. They are equipped with bigger, louder speakers and a longer battery life compared to other Meta glasses, making them ideal for tracking workouts during outdoor activities. The glasses pair with platforms such as Strava and Garmin to track workouts, and they have a new "workouts" section in the Meta AI app to show activity details, photos, and videos.

The Meta Oakley Vanguard sports glasses also feature a camera centered on the bridge of the nose with a wider field of view. This allows for better capture of scenic vistas during outdoor activities.

On the other hand, the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses are designed to reduce screen time by allowing users to interact with AI technology and their online lives via glasses similar to regular prescription lenses or sunglasses. They come with a tiny display screen on the inside right corner of the right lens, enabling users to view and send messages, capture and review photos and videos, watch Instagram Reels, take video calls, navigate, use live captioning and translation, and interact with the Meta AI assistant using subtle hand gestures.

The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses will be available starting September 30 for $799. They have updated battery life, camera capabilities, and color options, and are part of Meta's bid to make its AI technology a bigger part of users' everyday lives.

Meta's partner, Ray-Ban parent EssilorLuxottica, reported in July that revenue from its Meta glasses more than tripled year-over-year, indicating a growing interest in smart glasses.

In addition to the new smart glasses, Meta also unveiled new experiences on its Quest 3 virtual reality headsets, including games and a new entertainment app and partnership with Disney+ for Horizon, Meta's immersive "metaverse" experience.

Meta is aiming to produce 10 million pairs of Meta glasses each year starting in 2026, reflecting the company's commitment to the growing market of smart glasses. Despite remaining a relatively niche product, consumer adoption is growing fast.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses during the event, emphasizing their potential to revolutionize the way people interact with technology. The Meta Oakley Vanguard sports glasses, a new offering in the sports category, were also showcased.

With these new products, Meta continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of wearable technology, offering innovative solutions for both everyday use and outdoor activities.
