Meta Launches Communities on Threads for Focused Conversations
Meta has rolled out Communities for Threads, a new feature that allows users to engage in focused, topic-based conversations. The platform, launched on October 2, 2025, expands its capabilities with this addition, offering over 100 communities covering popular interests such as basketball, TV, and technology.
Communities on Threads function as public spaces where members can share perspectives and join conversations about specific topics. Each community implements a custom Like emoji, creating distinct identity markers within member interactions. Users can discover communities through searching by name or tapping community tags on posts. The feature transforms how users engage with specialized interests, building upon existing custom feeds and topic tags.
For content creators, communities offer concentrated audiences with demonstrated interest in specific topics. Meta plans to introduce special badges for standout community contributors and ranking mechanisms within communities and the For You feed. The platform's approach to communities maintains its core emphasis on public conversation while adding structural organization around topics.
Communities automatically pin to members' feeds menu and display as tags on profiles, creating transparent social signals about user interests. Meta's expansion of Threads' capabilities with Communities is expected to enhance user engagement and foster more meaningful conversations around shared interests.
