Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Fleet Expansion: 64 Additional Vehicles on the Way for Rewe
REWE Delivery Service Bolsters Electric Fleet with 64 Mercedes-Benz eSprinters
REWE Delivery Service, a key component of the REWE Group, has expanded its electric delivery fleet in Germany by acquiring 64 new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans. These vehicles, designed for last-mile logistics, will be primarily used in cities like Berlin and Neuss starting September 2025.
The eSprinter, with its electric drivetrain optimised for urban delivery efficiency, is a strategic choice for REWE. It meets both sustainability and efficiency requirements, offering flexibility for the delivery service.
The electric vehicles are equipped with a 150 kW (204 PS) motor and an 81 kWh battery, although the eSprinters used by REWE have a more modest 90 kW motor and a 47 kWh usable battery capacity. This configuration is ideal for short-range urban delivery routes, such as those operated by REWE.
The eSprinters have a range of approximately 150 to 168 kilometers (around 100 to 105 miles) on a single charge, depending on configuration and load. This makes them suitable for the specific delivery needs of REWE.
Clemens Bauer, Director of REWE E-Commerce, emphasised the replacement of conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines by electric vehicles in their delivery service. The REWE Delivery Service is investing around €5 million in the new electric vehicles.
The site's infrastructure has been equipped with 42 charging stations, each with 22 kW, to charge the vehicles with green electricity. The vehicles are planned to be charged only overnight.
The new eSprinters have a design in the colours mango, fig, and peach to increase visibility. They also bear the message "This vehicle runs 100% electrically!". The payload capacity of these vehicles is up to 1,275 kilograms.
Initially, these vehicles will be deployed in Berlin, with Neuss to follow in September. This is the largest single order the company has placed with its new partner, Mercedes-Benz. The optimised route planning for the eSprinters allows for environmentally friendly routes and full utilisation to avoid unnecessary trips or detours.
This initiative is part of the REWE Group's overarching sustainability strategy, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The deployment of these electric vehicles is a significant step towards this goal.
| Specification | Value | |---------------------|--------------------------------| | Range | ~150 - 168 km (urban delivery) | | Motor power | ~90 kW (approx. 122 hp) | | Battery capacity | ~47 kWh usable |
